Lordy, Lordy, the Truthiness!

Lordy, Lordy the truthiness!

What is the point of us hearing
The incredible stories
Of Jesus healing the sick and raising the dead?

But that ultimately we should become keenly aware
That truth in narrative
Can never be reduced to cold historical facts

Alas
These stories are for our living faith
Not for a museum of our minds

Yet who can blame us
For wanting to preserve our very souls
Behind displays of bulletproof glass
Enclosed with certain captions and creeds

Oh if only we didn't have to go home at night

For all our concerns of faith
Day in and day out
There is no vestige so vital
Than what we choose to truthily believe

For this is how faith is ferried
In the immanent face of sickness and death

Nevertheless
Truth should we love
So let story speak!

For Christ sake!
Let the story move you
Not pin you down.
