Picking and Choosing

God is either the great containment of everything

Or nothing at all

And God is either the great differentiation of everything

Or just nonsense

For when we pick and choose a God as the God

Then that God turns around and does the same to us

Picking and choosing only some people as special, but not others

Picking and choosing only some stories and rites as holy, but not others

Picking and choosing only some beliefs as righteous, but not others

Ultimately that God will tell you

To play favorites rather than love

To mock rather than share meaning

To bicker rather than work for justice

That God is a bigot, corrupt and petty

Instead, let us find ourselves ever and always IN God, each and every one of us

So we can ALL work together to find the compassionate ways OF God

And stop picking and choosing, for God's sake, whether a God is the God.
